Apollo Africa is proudly a Reunert group company. Reunert is an industrial group with a portfolio of businesses in its Electrical Engineering, Information and Communications Technology, and Applied Electronics segments. Reunert was founded in 1888 and was one of the first companies listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in 1948 alongside the early banking and mining institutions of the time.

In 2021, Schedule 2 of the Electricity Regulation Act was amended to remove the licensing requirement for generation projects of any size. This change paved the way for increased public participation in the power generation sector. Consequently, a significant market shift occurred as large industrial and mining companies within South Africa's Energy Intensive Users Group took the initiative to develop procurement strategies for purchasing their own wheeled power.
